Mr. Oluole Temi Afolabi Profile
Oluwole Afolabi is a graduate of Economics with second class upper division from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. Upon his graduation in 1986, he had his NYSC at Government Girls Secondary School, Umuola, Etche, Rivers State. After the NYSC in 1987, he joined the services of Peat, Marwick, Ani Ogunde & Co (later KPMG Audit) where he trained and wrote the professional examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He passed the qualifying examinations of the Institute in November 1990 and became a Fellow of the Institute in 2020. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. While in KPMG, he was exposed to the banking, manufacturing, Capital market activities, Commerce and Insurance sectors of the economy.
In February 1991, he was employed as a treasury accountant and dealer in the cadre of an officer by Industrial Bank Ltd (Merchant Bankers). With the dint of hard work, Wole became the treasurer of the Bank by January 1996. By 1998, he was transferred to head the Credit & Marketing of the Bank to i) grow and ii) manage risk assets of the Bank in line with the CBN prudential guidelines.
In 1999, Wole Afolabi joined the services of Peak Merchant Bank as the Treasurer of the Bank. To create and manage the Bank’s liquidity, Wole had great relationship with other banks’ dealers, treasurers as well as Discount Houses. He sat as a member of the Establishment Committee of Associated Discount House.
Wole Afolabi left the banking industry in 2003 and established his own practice as Financial Management Expert, Investment Advisor and Tax Practitioner. He is a retained consultant to the EU, African Bank Development Bank (AfDB), French Development Agency (AFD), JICA and the World Bank. Wole Afolabi has supervised many World Bank financed projects in all the 36 States of Nigeria including the FCT, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Uganda, Rwanda Kenya and South Sudan.
He is an expert in the water sector having worked extensively with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to prepare, appraise and supervise the implementation of the 1st National Urban Water Sector Reform Project in Ogun, Kaduna and Enugu States; 2nd National Urban Water Sector Reform Project in Lagos and Cross River States; as well as 3rd National Urban Water Sector Reform Project in Bauchi, Ekiti and Rivers States. He also worked as Financial Management Specialist in the AfDB financed Port Harcourt Water Corporation. While in Osun State between 2006 and 2010, Wole served as the Finance & Contract Manager / Imprest Officer to the EU financed Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme. He is currently the Managing Director of Ekiti Water and Sewerage Company Ltd; a successor company to Ekiti State Water Corporation.
As a paper presenter and workshop facilitator on financial management, project finance and Leadership Management. Wole is a retained presenter by the Lagos Business School, Ibadan Business School and Fagna Training and Consultants Ltd. He has facilitated to many project staff in GIMPA Ghana and Kigali- Rwanda.
Wole Afolabi is unassuming, personable and of good character in the marketplace. He is married with children.
